iPhone 4 Plans

by Luke on July 29, 2010

The initial iPhone 4 Plans have been released by the major mobile companies Vodafone, 3, Optus and Telstra. Fortunately they offer far better value sompared with the corresponding iPhone 3GS plans about a year ago. Mobile companies are starting to realise that it’s important to be able to have a decent amount of data allowance on an iPhone :)

Our site has a referral partnership with Vodafone and 3, so here’s a summary of their iPhone 4 plans:

Vodafone

  • iPhone plans ranging from $29 Cap per month up to $99 Unlimited plans
  • with a current bonus the $49 iPhone Cap has 1.5GB of data per month!
  • all iPhone Cap of $49 and higher receive bonus data of 1GB per month
  • The 16GB iPhone 4 comes free on the $69 Cap and higher
  • The 32GB iPhone 4 comes free on the $79 Cap and higher
  • Click here to see the Vodafone website with the iPhone 4 plans

3 Mobile

We have checked with Apple this afternoon and they won’t be confirming their outright price of the iPhone 4 until they start selling the phone in stores and online. That will be at midnight tonight.

Once you have your iPhone 4, please get in touch with us for your comments, feedback, reviews etc – we’d love to hear from you!

iPhone 4 features

by Luke on July 15, 2010

The iPhone 4 (originally referred to as iPhone 4G, but as Apple has dropped the “g” from its vernacular, so will we) promises to be another life-changing piece of technology to come out of the Apple factories in the last decade.

iPhone 4 Release Date

The iPhone 4 release date in Australia is still to be announced. Sign up for our newsletter (right) and we’ll update you when we know more. But keep reading to find out why you should be eagerly awaiting the release date announcement!

iPhone 4 Pricing

We don’t have confirmed pricing from Apple yet, but know the iPhone 4 will be available outright and unlocked from the online Apple store. There has also been a significant price drop on the iPhone 3GS on the Apple website, so we’d expect the 16GB iPhone 4 to be about $879 and the 32GB version to be about $1,040. Sign up for our newsletter and we’ll update you on the price as soon as it’s available. Otherwise just head across to the Apple site.

Key iPhone 4 Features

iPhone 4

Facetime

Finally, a common sense approach to video calling. Apple puts a second camera on the front of the phone, allowing you and your other iPhone 4 carrying friends to make video phone calls.

Retina Display

Resolution so sharp that the human eye can’t distinguish one pixel from another. With HD television so commonplace these days, it’s nice to finally see such care for definition in a phone.

Multitasking

Imagine switching between apps on the iPhone, rather than needing to close one to open another. Apple has improved performance, too, so having multiple apps open doesn’t drain the battery unnecessarily.

HD Video and 5-megapixel camera

Apple seems to have corrected one of the biggest weaknesses of previous generations of iPhone. Now you can shoot movies (in high def, of course), take pictures with a sweet 5-megapixel camera using digital zoom, and do it all in low-light with a built-in LED flash.

Glass rather than plastic

iPhone 4 continues to trump all convention: with glossy aluminosilicate glass (the same stuff used to make windshields of helicopters) instead of plastic, it’s the most durable and scratch resistant phone ever. This glass is 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic. Plus it’s recyclable. :)

Custom stainless steel band

Apple designed its own stainless steel alloy for the band of iPhone 4, engineered to be five times stronger than standard steel. Not only does it provide a nice rigid structure, but it serves as iPhone 4′s antennas.

Much more fun

current iPhone users will appreciate the ability to:

  • organize apps into folders
  • change the phone wallpaper
  • automatically geotag photos and integrate with Faces
  • integrate the calendar with third-party calendars (like Google)

Cheap iPhone 3GS

by Luke on July 15, 2010

Apple iPhone 3GSWe’re counting down the days until the iPhone 4 is released in Australia, but until then Apple has a cheap price on the iPhone 3GS. They have taken away the 16GB and 32GB models – they will be the specs for the iPhone 4 – but have introduced an 8GB 3GS version. The price is also cheaper than the 3GS has ever been – only $719! See www.Apple.com/au/ for more information.

We recommend buying your cheap iPhone outright at the online Apple store. You can buy with confidence knowing that your iPhone is coming directly from Apple.

At only $719, the 8GB version of the iPhone 3GS is cheap compared to the 16GB version which until June 2010 was $879 and the 32GB version which was $1,040. Until last month the very old iPhone 3G was $719, so it seems that all the models are being shuffled along to replace the price point of the older models.

We are expecting the new iPhone 4 to be priced very similarly to the previous 3GS pricing at between $850 to $1,100.

Whilst there are some new features on the iPhone 4, the 3GS is an outstanding phone and an especially good pick up for deal hunters! The cheap price is making it very popular.
